Curacao - Willemstad (EN)
Curaçao is one of the lesser Antilles island countries in the Southern Carribean Sea and the Dutch carribean region north of Venezuela and is also one of the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, the three westernmost islands of the Leeward Antilles. Curaçao is independent but It is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is not part of but associated with the European Union and not part of the Shengen region. Curacao has about 160.000 inhabitants, the majority of them live in its capital Willemstad.
In October 2019 the „3rd Postgraduate Course `Congenital Heart Disease`" took place at Willemstad and our department had the chance to present a talk, chairing sessions and give a seminar.
Since 2017 there is an informal but long lasting personal cooperation with the pediatric cardiologist of the country, Mrs Doctor Dr. Shirley M. Lo-A-Njoe.
In 2019 the new general hospital was opened, the „Curacao Medical Center“, that has 300 beds, about 1300 employees, out of them are about 100 medical doctors and 700 medical staff. In 2022 about 3400 surgeries were performed and 620 babies were born.
