The One Health Core Competencies course consists of a blended learning system, including synchronous and asynchronous sessions.

In the asynchronous sessions, the participants will be led through the theoretical foundations of interdisciplinary teamwork, systems thinking and the One Health approach through self-study with interactive elements on the Moodle-platform. Participants will also see illustrative examples of current One Health scientific cases.

During the synchronous sessions, participants will meet online via Zoom and work together as multi- and interdisciplinary teams. They will reflect and discuss on the One Health approach and solve a One Health challenge using an interactive problem-solving learning method. The learned content will be reviewed in interactive tasks on Moodle. As a final assignment, participants will develop a written report (Mission Plan) to solve the One Health problem.

By the end of the module, participants are expected to:

• identify the One Health approach, its definitions, history, and current discourses;
• recognize current global health challenges and their underlying problems, and define their dimensions and impact on human, animal, and environmental health systems;
• manage multi- and interdisciplinary teams, understanding roles and responsibilities, and getting familiarized with concepts and vocabulary of other disciplines;
• develop solutions for One Health problems and plan their implementation;
• be aware of the big picture and interdependencies of stakeholders in global health challenges.

The course is designed for students and docents of Masters/PhD or equivalent programs (e.g. completed preliminary examination) in disciplines such as:

• Human Health (human medicine, nursing, public health, epidemiology);
• Animal Health (veterinary medicine, agricultural studies);
• Environmental Studies (ecology, wildlife studies, sustainability), and
• Social Studies (anthropology, economics, geography, sociology).

Online, blended learning with synchronous and asynchronous sessions, using Moodle and Zoom plaforms.

The module lasts 8 weeks, and is designed for 90 working hours, including 30h working with online material and meetings and around 60h of self-study and project work. The course offers 3 ECTS (needs to be approved by the student's home institution).
