2017 Symposium "Emerging Challenges of Triple Burden of Diseases and Their Prospects in Developing Countries"

Low resources, poor planning and bad implementation of policies may result in a mixture of old and well-known problems (common infections, maternal mortality and undernutrition), emerging problems (non-communicable diseases and their risk factors) and health risks associated with globalization.
Developing countries are the most affected by this new mixture of epidemiological patterns where the burden of infectious diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria is still high, and at the same time Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and mental illness, and other patterns directly related to globalization such as trauma are becoming a real challenge – The Triple Burden of Disease.
In order to address this new epidemiological reality, countries need to design and implement more integrated health care systems at a national level and a global task force should be driven to strengthen international collaboration and share the best practices toward the reduction of the impact of the Triple Burden of Disease for the developing countries.
This symposium aimed to present the current panorama of the coexisting Infectious Diseases, NCD and Trauma in developing countries and at the same time promote discussion on the challenges of establishing better integrated health systems and the clinical, social and economic impact of the Triple Burden of Diseases in developing countries.
