2020 Humanitarian Symposium Munich
The 5th Humanitarian Symposium on the 15th February 2020 with its rich and diverse programme has sparked excitement and inspiration in its audience. The high variety of topics and stakeholders successfully represented the heterogeneous and collaborative interplay that is at the core of international humanitarian aid. Bringing together representatives from various Non-Governmental Organizations, from the City of Munich and from Universities allowed for a fruitful and diversified exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The topics ranged from administration and management of humanitarian aid, issues of water and waste management, climate change, experiences, reflections and lessons learned from individuals and organisations in humanitarian aid to insights of research. The symposium provided an interesting platform for exchange and some overarching reoccurring topics became apparent throughout the day. The importance of the involvement of local partners and communities aiming at sustainability and long-term assumption of responsibility by local networks as well as the challenges of representativity, communication and power guided us through the day.
The exhibition during the breaks provided the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences as well as to get in touch with a great variety of institutions.
Cadus e.V., City of Munich, Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine LMU, Freundeskreis Indianerhilfe e.V., German Society of Tropical Paediatrics and International Child Health e.V., German Society of Tropical Surgery e.V., Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, humedica e.V., InciSioN -- the International Student Surgical Network, Interplast Germany e.V., Johanniter International Assistance, LandsAid e.V., Médicins du Monde Germany e.V., Medical Mission Institute Würzburg, Medical Students´Association Germany e.V., missio München and Pharmacists Without Borders Germany e.V. provided the stage for enriching exchanges and insights.
The symposium with its combination of the high variety of NGOs, different disciplines, academia, research and management organisations served its purpose to connect individuals and stakeholders with shared goals in the field of humanitarian aid.
