FRESH Bolivia (2018–2022): Employment, Working Conditions, and Health of Young Professionals
The FRESH II study, led in Bolivia by Dr. María Teresa Solís Soto and funded by CIHLMU (Germany), followed graduates of Medicine and Nursing from USFX to assess their employment situation and mental health four years after graduation.
Key Findings
- Mental health: high distress levels persisted (53% in 2018 → 56% in 2022).
- Employment: 47% were unemployed; only 59% worked in their field.
- Job conditions: just 15% had permanent contracts; most faced low pay and instability.
- COVID-19 impact: 81% treated patients during the pandemic.
- Training: graduates valued their education but called for more practice, psychological support, and pandemic preparedness.
This project was in charge of María Teresa Solís Soto, Katja Radon, Lea John.
Conclusion
Unstable jobs and limited opportunities affect both mental health and well-being. FRESH II provides crucial evidence to guide public policy, academic training, and mental health strategies for young health professionals in Bolivia. https://ohtarget.usfx.bo/index.php/fresh/
