Board of Directors
The University of Munich Hospital is managed by the Board of Directors. This consists of the Medical Director, the Commercial Director, the Director of Nursing and a representative of the faculty. The members of the Executive Board are appointed for a term of office of five years and can be reappointed at the end of their term of office. The Board of Directors manages the hospital and is responsible for its business. The full-time Medical Director is the Chairman of the Board of Directors. In its decisions, the Board is bound by the resolutions of the Supervisory Board.
The Medical Director, Professor Dr. med. Markus M. Lerch, chairs the hospital's Board of Directors and represents the hospital externally. He is also the superior of all scientific staff with the exception of university lecturers.
Commercial Director Markus Zendler is responsible for the financial management of the entire hospital. As the superior of all non-scientific staff, including nursing staff, around 7,000 employees report to him.
The Director of Nursing, Carolin Werner, manages the nursing and functional services at the hospital and is the line manager of the nursing and functional services staff, who number over 3,000. She is responsible for the tasks and powers required to ensure nursing care.
The representative of the faculty, Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Gudermann, Director of the Walther Straub Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, represents the interests of research and teaching in particular on the Board and thus establishes the connection with the Faculty of Medicine of the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
