Digital Medicine and LMU MedBiobank
Advancing digitalization in the healthcare sector offers enormous opportunities, but also poses complex challenges. Interdisciplinary cooperation is essential in order to sustainably integrate innovative technologies into everyday clinical practice. The Digital Medicine and LMU MedBiobank Unit sees itself as a bridge between medical staff, IT specialists and researchers. It actively supports the digital transformation in medical technology and IT at the hospital - from needs assessment and pilot projects to the implementation of new systems. One focus is on further training in medical informatics for doctors and the development of digital solutions in close cooperation with the specialist departments.
With the LMU MedBiobank, the LMU Medical Center and the Faculty of Medicine have established structures to systematically make biomaterials available for research in compliance with common standards. This is being achieved on the way to a data-driven LMU Klinikum in close cooperation and with the support of the Center for Medical Data Integration and Analysis (link: MeDICLMU). Together with the participating institutions, the Digital Medicine and LMU MedBiobank staff unit coordinates the organizational and technical processes, including patient information, consent, documentation and sample management. The use of samples and data takes place on the basis of a general usage regulation via the central Use and Access Committee (UAC) of the LMU Clinic after approval by the data-holding and biosample-collecting institutions. The cooperative approach places particular emphasis on digitization, standardization, quality assurance and efficient support for research - especially for LMU Medicine institutions, but also for national and international projects.
