Demographic trends have been indicating for some time that the number of patients suffering from dementia will increase significantly - according to projections, around 80 million dementia patients are expected worldwide in 2050. It is therefore extremely important to establish competence centers that deal with this spectrum of diseases and their manifestations. One of these is Alzheimer's dementia. Today, there are a large number of clinics and centers at the University Hospital of Munich that are dedicated to this topic in research, teaching and patient care.

Providing adequate care for people with serious heart conditions remains one of the greatest challenges in medicine. At the LMU Clinic, cardiologists and cardiac surgeons work hand in hand to provide the best possible treatment for each individual patient. Combining forces in this way to optimize "heart medicine" is by no means a matter of course: in many facilities, these two specialist areas sometimes provide competing services.
