Medicine meets music: the encouraging concert HÄMATONE

Lebensmut e.V. and the LMU Klinikum hosted a varied program of music, information and encounters on 8 November - for people with blood disorders and cancer, their relatives and all those who support them. Bands from Germany and the Netherlands presented 12 hours of music ranging from classical and jazz to pop and rock.

"Nurses, doctors and patients make music together - for each other and especially for cancer patients. Music lifts us out of our everyday lives and is one of the most effective stress therapies. I am delighted that we are able to host this event here at LMU Klinikum," says Prof. Markus M. Lerch, Medical Director and Chairman of the Board.

Twelve hours of music, street food and disco at the end. Hämatone presented itself in Munich with twelve groups and soloists and 34 participants.

Many of the musicians are doctors, nurses or cancer patients themselves and come from four federal states and the Netherlands. The band "Hämatones" consists of well-known hemato-oncologists from all over Germany. Singer Miriam Vogt is a former cancer patient and is involved with the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation. The members of the band "Recovery" around HämaTone organizer Prof. Oliver Weigert all work at the LMU Clinic, in the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic III, in the Laboratory for Experimental Leukemia and Lymphoma Research (ELLF) and the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. "Acute on chronic" is an ensemble of nurses from the hematology department of the Johanneskrankenhaus Dortmund, which already fills large halls there. At the after-show party, DJane Eléni, a fixture on the Munich club scene and head secretary of the Medical Clinic III at LMU Klinikum, played.

The event was hosted by Guy Fränkel, head of Antenne Bayern. For the large audience, including many patients from the LMU Clinic, the encouraging concert was a welcome musical break from everyday therapy or treatment with rock, pop, jazz, funk-soul and classical music.
