Senhance OR system
Senhance Surgical Robotic System especially for operations on children unique in Germany
Since 2023, Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital has had the Senhance Surgical Robotic System especially for operations on children. Unlike other systems, this surgical robot uses extra-small instruments (3 to 5 instead of the usual 8 millimetres). This enables the doctors at the Pediatric Surgery Clinic to perform minimally invasive abdominal and thoracic operations on children as young as twelve months. The Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital at LMU Klinikum München is the first hospital in Germany to use this robotic assistance system exclusively for children. Operation is possible thanks to generous donations from the Hauner Association.
"Robot-assisted surgery offers great advantages for patients and surgeons. But it is more expensive than conventional surgery and is not covered by the German hospital reimbursement system. We are therefore extremely grateful to the Hauner Verein for their generous donation, without which this medical advance at the LMU Klinikum would hardly have been possible," said Prof. Dr. Markus M. Lerch, Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of the LMU Klinikum at the opening of the Pediatric Surgery Center for Robot-Assisted Surgery. The 1.5 million euro device will initially be leased. After a two-year pilot phase, a decision will be made as to whether the device will be taken over.
