All4Hauner charity run 2025: A complete success for sick children
Supporting the Hauner Children's Hospital through donations goes back a long way: August von Hauner founded Munich's first children's hospital in 1846. His aim was to provide children with the best possible medical care, regardless of their origin or social status. Even back then, the Hauner Children's Hospital was supported by a combination of public funding and private commitment.
Helping together so that children are well cared for - this motto still applies today: "All sick children have a right to the best possible clinical care - regardless of their background. Our doctors are not satisfied with 'the standard of what is necessary', we all want the best for sick children and their families," says Prof. Christoph Klein, Director of the Children's Hospital at Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital. "In order for this to succeed in the future, we are dependent on a wave of solidarity in civil society. The all4Hauner charity run has sent an important message - we all bear responsibility for the health of our children!"
Every meter counted
Under the motto "Every meter counts", more than 120 children, parents, employees of the hospital and supporters from all over Munich set off on the course around the St. Vinzenz Haus of the LMU hospital on the city center campus. The atmosphere was special right from the start: young and old runners cheered each other on. The youngest participant was Elio, just under one year old. He had to spend the first six months of his life in the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital: "The best thing that could have happened was that we ended up here and Elio got all the help he needed," says Lena, his mother. That's why the family was also part of the charity run - with baby carriages, snacks and cuddly fur.
Donations benefit special outpatient clinics
The results of the day are impressive: The participants completed a total of 1,162 laps around St. Vinzenz Haus. In addition, numerous supporters ran for all4Hauner in the run-up to and outside of the event. A total of 32,000 euros has been raised so far. "The aim of the charity run is to support the special outpatient clinics for seriously ill children. Here, children with complex illnesses are treated holistically through close cooperation between different medical departments," explains Prof. Bianca Schaub, Head of the Department of Pneumology-Allergology at the Children's Hospital at the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital. "In the spirit of the 'poor doctor' August Hauner, who founded a small hospital for sick children in a rented apartment in Munich in 1846, the all4Hauner charity run is a joint campaign of the children's hospital, which has received great support from politicians, celebrities, civil society and social media."
Prominent support
Two surprise guests were particularly enthusiastic: Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry not only supported the all4Hauner charity run with their foundations, but were also there in person with FC Bayern mascot Bernie. After the award ceremony, there was plenty of time for photos and autographs. The sponsor of the charity run, former competitive athlete Gela Allmann, also motivated the participants: "Everyone needs strength on the long road to recovery. It is precisely this strength that I want to share with the charity run."
Also sponsoring the three running laps were health officer Beatrix Zurek, actress Brigitte Hobmeier and Green Party city councillor Florian Schönemann. Former ski racer Felix Neureuther also supported the charity run by launching an appeal for donations on social media. Bavarian Health Minister Judith Gerlach and Munich's Third Mayor Verena Dietl and a patient from the special outpatient clinic at the children's hospital sent a digital greeting for those taking part in the charity run.
Three celebrity supporters were also there: Serge Gnabry with Joshua Kimmich and FC Bayern mascot Bernie.
"The all4Hauner charity run was a great success," sums up PD Dr. Eberhard Lurz, Head of the Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology in the Children's Clinic at the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital. "In addition to several hundred thousand meters run and a very successful relay against the medical profession, the children had a top day for themselves. Magically painted faces, a large raffle, great food and, thanks to the weather, perfect autumn sunshine made this day unforgettable. And of course the star guests Bernie, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry!"
Thanks to all supporters
Many thanks to all participants, sponsors and helpers who made this day possible. These include the Hauner Association, the Care-for-Rare Foundation, the Children's Health Foundation and many foundations such as the "Glaub an Dich Stiftung", the "Serge Gnabry Stiftung", the Felix Neureuther Foundation, Käfer, Stadtsparkasse München, Gastronomie Wilhelm + Lehmann, Paulaner Bräuhaus, Kiddy's Music, Münchner Kindl-Lauf and many more.
"The successful charity run makes us confident that the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital will be able to continue to provide the best possible care in the special outpatient clinics in the future thanks to this great support," says Prof. Matthias Kappler, Head of the Pneumology and Cystic Fibrosis Department at the Children's Clinic at the Dr. von Hauner Children's Hospital. "Many thanks to all donors and to all employees who have helped to prepare for the run in recent weeks. A great sense of community has grown in the clinic during the preparations. The incredible team spirit across the various professional groups will continue to help us treat sick children and their families well and with joy in the future. Thank you!"
