Outpatient Surgery Center (AOZ)

Around 40,000 operations are performed at the LMU Clinic every year. This includes an increasing number of outpatient operations. Thanks to modern surgical and anesthetic procedures, many operations can now be performed on an outpatient basis - i.e. without an overnight stay in hospital. Our new surgery center on the Großhadern campus now has its own separate outpatient surgery center (AOZ) with four operating theaters for our patients. It is specially designed to meet the needs of patients undergoing outpatient surgery. From patient admission in the morning to discharge home a few hours after the operation, you will be cared for by our experienced team in the AOZ.

Further information on the Outpatient Surgery Center

Around 40,000 operations are performed at the University Hospital of Munich (KUM) every year.

As a patient, you benefit from being able to return to your familiar home environment after a recovery and follow-up period adapted to the procedure. This is a great relief for young patients, especially in the case of childhood operations. In addition, the structural conditions in our AOZ allow parents to accompany their children until the start of anesthesia and directly after the end of the operation until they are discharged. During operations and anesthesia, all patients are cared for by experienced specialists and nursing staff. If someone unexpectedly does not feel able to be discharged home after the operation, it is of course also possible in individual cases to be admitted to the relevant specialist department as an inpatient. This means that the entire experience and safety of a university hospital is available in our AOZ, even for minor surgical procedures.

Whether an operation can be performed on you as an outpatient depends primarily on two factors:

  • The operation to be performed must be suitable.

The links to our surgical clinics on the right-hand side show which operations we can offer on an outpatient basis in the various specialist areas.

  • The patient's state of health

Serious underlying illnesses may prevent outpatient treatment. Whether there are reasons that rule out outpatient treatment in an individual case will be clarified in the preparatory discussion between the patient and the surgeon or anesthetist. You will also find contact details for our surgical clinics in the link bar on the right-hand side.
