Surgical and anesthesia technicians work in our surgical center (OPZ). There we offer you 32 operating theaters, 4 outpatient ORs and approx. 70 intensive care beds on 14,500 m². This makes Europe's largest and most modern surgical center an attractive training location with a future.

Job description surgical assistant (m/f/d)
Operating theatre assistants (OTAs) prepare surgical units, including the instruments used, assist the operating team during operations and care for patients during and after the operation. They are characterized by independent organization and coordination of the necessary work steps in the various functional departments. Other tasks of surgical assistants include the reprocessing of medical instruments and equipment. They are responsible for aseptic working methods and the implementation of hygiene measures and are responsible for training and instructing new employees.

Tasks anesthesia technical assistant (m/f/d)
The tasks of the anesthesia technical assistants (ATA) include the professionally qualified and people-oriented care of the patient, taking into account their respective mental and physical condition during the entire time in the operating area. The preparation and post-processing of the required workstations, the support of the anesthetist and the professional handling of medical equipment and materials are also part of the work of an ATA. All activities are carried out in accordance with hygiene guidelines. In addition, you will be responsible for the independent organization and coordination of work processes in anaesthesia. You will also be responsible for post-operative monitoring, care and support of patients in the recovery room.

Information on training
Duration and course of training
Training as an OTA/ATA (f/m/d) has been state-recognized since 1.1.2022. The legal basis is provided by the Federal Act (ATA-OTA-G) and the Training and Examination Ordinance (ATA-OTA-APrV). OTA/ATA training lasts three years and includes at least 2100 hours of theoretical and practical instruction and 2500 hours of practical training.
As part of the training, the following mandatory assignments must be completed in the surgical specialties of visceral surgery, traumatology/orthopaedics, gynaecology or urology. We can offer further placements in the specialist areas of neurosurgery, ENT, vascular/heart and pediatric surgery. You will carry out mandatory assignments outside the operating theatre in the emergency room, nursing and intensive care unit, endoscopy, cardiac catheterization, central sterilization, anaesthesia nursing (OTA) and in surgical nursing (ATA).
In practice, you will be professionally supervised and supported by our teams and practice supervisors.
Your training ends with the final examination, which consists of a written, practical and oral part. It takes place in the last three months of training and can be repeated if necessary.
Once you have successfully completed your training, we will be delighted if you continue to work at our hospital in the operating theater or in another specialist area.
For your further professional development, you will find numerous further training opportunities in the Personnel Development department, e.g. to become a practice supervisor or head of a functional area.
Training allowance
The training allowance is paid in accordance with the collective agreement for trainees in nursing professions in the federal states.
Tuition fees and the cost of textbooks are paid by the hospital.
Entry requirements
- Applicants (m/f/d) must be suitable for the profession in terms of health
- an intermediate school-leaving certificate or other equivalent completed school education or
- successful completion of another ten-year general school education or
- the lower secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent school education, together with
- successfully completed vocational training with a planned training period of at least two years or
- a license as a nursing assistant or successfully completed state-regulated training of at least one year's duration in nursing assistance or geriatric nursing assistance or other equivalent training.
The existence of the respective entry requirements for training must be proven in a suitable form.

After a selection process, applicant days (assessment) take place between March and May.
