Prof. Michael Hoelscher and Prof. Oliver Keppler awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit

Award ceremony in the Antiquarium of the Residence - Dr. Markus Söder honors services in the fight against the pandemic
On 14 March 2022, Minister President Dr. Markus Söder presented 47 individuals with the Bavarian Order of Merit for their outstanding services to the Free State of Bavaria and the Bavarian people at a ceremony in the Antiquarium of the Residence in Munich. Renowned personalities from the fields of medicine and science, art and culture, as well as sport, nursing, administration and the private sector are among those honored. This year, Prof. Dr. med. Michael Hoelscher from LMU Klinikum München and Prof. Dr. med. Oliver Keppler from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität were among them.

Prof. Dr. med. Michael Hoelscher is a specialist in tropical medicine and has been head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at LMU Klinikum München since 2015. He has been committed to improving healthcare in Africa for many years. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, he has provided his expertise as a member of the Bavarian State Government's Expert Council and made an important contribution to combating the pandemic.

Prof. Dr. Oliver Keppler is a renowned virologist and Director of Virology at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, he has been an important player in the fight against the spread of the disease, also as an advisor to the Bavarian state government. "It is a great honor to support the Free State of Bavaria and the people of Bavaria during the coronavirus pandemic and to be awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by the Bavarian Minister President for this. In addition to gratitude and joy, I also see this honor as an incentive and responsibility to continue on this path," says Prof. Oliver Keppler, expressing his thanks for the award.

About the Bavarian Order of Merit

The Bavarian Order of Merit was created by the Bavarian Order of Merit Act of June 11, 1957. The number of personalities to whom the Bavarian Order of Merit has been awarded since its foundation 64 years ago has risen to a total of 5,772. A special feature of the Bavarian Order of Merit is that the number of living recipients is limited to 2,000.
