VACCINE ACTION

High demand for coronavirus vaccination program at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich

Almost 700 people received vaccination
Thanks to a joint campaign by the Ministry of Science with the Tropical Institute of the LMU Klinikum and the State Painting Collections, almost 700 people were able to be vaccinated against the coronavirus at the Pinakothek der Moderne on Monday, December 13, 2021. The campaign took place as part of the Hi!A Festival for Art and Research in Bavaria and gave interested parties the opportunity to get vaccinated in the middle of Munich's Kunstareal from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. without having to make an appointment in advance.

"I am delighted that our joint vaccination offer was so well received at this extraordinary location. The fact that significantly more than the originally planned 500 vaccinations could be administered here is really a great success - because every vaccination counts! This joint campaign as part of the Hi!A Festival has impressively demonstrated how valuable art and research are for our society," said Science and Art Minister Bernd Sibler. "I would therefore like to thank the team at the Tropical Institute of the LMU Clinic with its director Professor Dr. Michael Hoelscher and the head of the outpatient clinic there Dr. Camilla Rothe, the Director General of the Bavarian State Painting Collections Prof. Dr. Bernhard Maaz, the Pinakothek der Moderne and all the volunteers for their impressive efforts in making this offer possible."

Short-term organization of additional vaccine doses

After the large crowds throughout the morning made it clear that the 500 vaccine doses initially planned would probably not be enough for all those interested, Professor Dr. Michael Hoelscher's medical team was able to organize additional vaccine at short notice. At the end of the ten-hour campaign, 686 doses had been administered in nine vaccination booths, the majority of which were so-called booster vaccinations, i.e. third vaccinations. The newly vaccinated were able to rest in the central rotunda of the Pinakothek der Moderne, which is closed to the public on Mondays.
