This year's David Sackett Prize was awarded to the Paradies study group led by Prof. Jochen Gensichen. The prize is named after the pioneer of "evidence-based medicine". According to this, patient-oriented decisions in medical treatments should be made on the basis of empirically proven effectiveness wherever possible. The German Network for Evidence-based Medicine EbM presented Gensichen with the award on February 14 at the EbM Network Annual Congress in Basel for his work on the "Treatment of Panic Disorders in General Practice" (Paradies Study, Patient Activation foR Anxiety DIsordErS). Under the motto "...living more freely in the face of anxiety", the group investigated the effects of a behavioral therapy anxiety exercise program, supplemented by case management, in the GP practice team.
