The aim of the PICTURE study was to improve GP care structures for patients with post-traumatic stress symptoms following a stay in an intensive care unit. It was shown that a structured short form of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), carried out in GP practices, is reliably effective. The study results were published in the journal BMJ in 2025.
The PICTURE study has now been awarded the Roemer Prize for Psychosomatic Medicine 2026. At the award ceremony held on 6 March 2026 at Freie Universität Berlin, Dr. Barbara Stein (Hans Roemer Foundation) presented the award to Prof. Dr. Konrad Schmidt (Brandenburg Medical School), who accepted it on behalf of the PICTURE team (see photo).
The prize, awarded by the German College of Psychosomatic Medicine (DKPM) together with the Hans Roemer Foundation, recognizes outstanding scientific work on the integration of psychosomatic aspects into medical care. The prize is endowed with 2,000 euros.
