Patients with diseases of the heart valves are treated in the special consultation for structural heart diseases. In recent years, the latest minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of heart valve diseases have become established. Our hospital has extensive experience in the catheter-based treatment of the aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves. Catheter-assisted implantation of an aortic valve (TAVI) can be used to successfully treat narrowing of the aortic valve in a minimally invasive procedure. Leaks in the mitral and tricuspid valve have been successfully treated in our clinic for many years using a clipping procedure. In addition, minimally invasive valve prostheses are also used to replace the mitral and tricuspid valve in suitable patients.

Patients with heart failure are cared for in the heart failure outpatient clinic. Heart failure can have various underlying causes. These range from hereditary diseases of the heart muscle to acquired inflammatory heart diseases (e.g. myocarditis) and cardiac storage diseases (e.g. amyloidosis). Due to the various causes of heart failure, intensive examinations and individual therapy are necessary to improve the condition and prognosis of affected patients. We can offer our patients the latest and most modern drug and interventional treatment concepts. Heart transplants and the use of artificial hearts are available as an option for severe heart failure. We care for these patients in close cooperation with our colleagues in cardiac surgery.

Our clinic's rhythm clinic is a central point of contact for all patients with heart rhythm problems. A team of specialized senior physicians in electrophysiology, supported by experienced specialists and assistant physicians, is available five days a week. Depending on requirements, numerous other specialist disciplines can be consulted, e.g. colleagues from cardiac surgery or radiology. The following questions are answered:

Special consultation for cardiac arrhythmias
Patients with proven or suspected cardiac arrhythmias are presented here by registered doctors in order to develop and determine a diagnosis and treatment strategy at the highest university level based on their preliminary examinations. When making an appointment, it is therefore particularly important to bring along as many preliminary examinations and findings as possible (ECGs, long-term ECGs, medical reports, etc.). Patients who have undergone cardiac rhythm treatment in our clinic and require special follow-up treatment are also treated here.

Outpatient clinic for pacemaker, ICD and CRT patients
Routine checks and, if necessary, improved adjustment and programming of pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICD) and resynchronization devices are carried out here. This also includes implantable event recorders and subcutaneous defibrillators (S-ICD). All interrogation devices are available. If medically indicated, we also offer the option of telemedical monitoring (home monitoring) from all leading manufacturers.

Outpatient education clinic
Many patients present at our clinic for ablation therapy for cardiac arrhythmias. In order to prepare our patients for the procedure in the best possible way and, if necessary, to carry out any outstanding examinations, we invite them to our outpatient clinic in advance. As far as possible, our patients get to know our team of electrophysiology doctors, they are informed and all relevant questions are clarified in advance.

Familial arrhythmia syndromes are usually rare diseases that often lead to an increased risk of cardiac arrhythmia. Many of these diseases are hereditary. A distinction is made between familial arrhythmias without structural heart disease. These primarily electrical diseases of the heart are often summarized as "ion channel diseases". These include long QT syndrome, Brugada syndrome, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) or idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (iVF). In addition, there are familial arrhythmias with structural heart disease such as arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM), hypertrophic obstructive or non-obstructive cardiomyopathy (H(O)CM), familial dilated cardiomyopathy and other rarer forms. Patients are usually referred by their general practitioners for clarification of these diseases. The investigation of these rare diseases is often laborious and time-consuming. It is therefore all the more important to bring as much documentation as possible to the appointment. As many of the diseases mentioned can be hereditary, a detailed examination of family members is often part of the investigation. If medically indicated, genetic diagnostics can be carried out. This care is integrated into the Munich Center for Rare Diseases (MZSE) at LMU. The establishment of a video consultation is planned for the 1st quarter of 2021.

The Munich Consortium for Rare Heart Diseases deals with rare congenital heart diseases. It is organized as a multidisciplinary network of experts from three clinics of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the Technical University of Munich. Further information can be found here.

With this special consultation, we would like to offer patients with suspected or proven cardiac amyloidosis the opportunity to take advantage of an individualized treatment concept and close monitoring. In interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues from the haemato-oncology, nuclear medicine and radiology departments, patients are monitored and treated by a specialized, scientific team.
